I don’t really know if I should be as upset about this as I am, but I thought I would ask you about this incident anyway. My boyfriend and I were hanging out at his best friend’s house, with me laying on a couch in the living room trying to get rid of a headache and the boys in the adjoining room looking at an online game. They came back into the living room, and the friend makes a comment that I was sleeping and they should rape me. My boyfriend told him to be quiet and then saw I was awake and My boyfriend said it was time to go, and I tried to forget about what his friend had said, but I feel so strange and freaked out over that. I don’t think he would try to hurt me, but he’s always making fun of me and he’s a jealous person and I don’t think he believes I’m right for his best friend. I don’t really know what to do, and I feel like I shouldn’t be scared but I am.
You are not overreacting; I would be scared too! Dudes who ‘joke’ like that… it gives me the feeling that they’re just hoping the other guys will be like yes, that’s a good idea, let’s do it. That’s not a rape joke. That’s a rape threat, and it is seriously scary. Do you think you can tell your boyfriend that the comment made you extremely uncomfortable, and/or that you don’t want to be around this guy again? Your boyfriend should respect your wishes on that. You guys can spend time together away from the bff. That guy is a serious creep, and people who say stuff like that may very well be dangerous.
